Wave Placement FAQ

FAQ – Wave Placement

I’d like to ride with my significant other, best friend, aunt, 3rd cousin twice removed, etc. Can we do that?

Yes! After waves are assigned, you can request to move back to the slowest wave of your group so you can ride together. Just remember, moving back is the key. We can’t move you into an earlier wave.

I am a first-time rider. Any advice?

Welcome to Iceman! First-time riders are placed in available waves after the experienced riders have been assigned. Once waves are posted, first-time riders will have the opportunity to request a different wave if needed.

Our biggest piece of advice? Be prepared for anything. November in Northern Michigan can bring just about anything, and that’s part of what makes Iceman, Iceman.

My son/daughter is riding in Iceman Junior. Can I ride with them?

While the Iceman Cometh Challenge, Iceman Cometh Challenge Pro Race and Iceman Junior may follow the same course, they are separate races. Your child should be comfortable riding the full 30-mile course before taking on the Iceman Cometh Challenge.

If you or your child decide the 30-mile course is more than you’re ready for, no worries! We can easily transfer your child to the Meijer Slush Cup, which offers a shorter course and a great introduction to the Iceman experience.

Still have questions?

We’re here to help! If there’s something you think would be valuable for us to share, let us know. Leave a comment on the blog or email icemaninfo@iceman.com, and we’ll get your questions answered. If you’re wondering about it, chances are someone else is too!

Wave Placement !

Wave Placement

Waves are assigned based on the average of your three best Iceman Cometh times from the past five years, with preference given to riders who have competed in previous Iceman races. First-time riders will typically be placed in a later wave.

No matter where you start, there’s nothing quite like Iceman. Bring your best, embrace the challenge and show us what you’ve got!

Wave Corrections/Wave Contentions:

Once initial waves are posted all riders will be given a set amount of time to let us know of any corrections or contentions with their wave placement. When waves are published, the deadline and instructions for submitting a change request will be stated.

What times standards for each wave:

Below are the qualifying time standards for each wave. Please note that whichever wave you qualify for, you can also request any wave after that. For example, if you qualify for wave 10, you also qualify for waves 11-48.
