The Iceman is a point to point cross country mountain bike event held traditionally on the first Saturday in November. The race starts in Kalkaska, Michigan and finishes twenty seven miles later in Traverse City. The course is a safe and fast rolling adventure through the hardwoods, meadows, and cross country ski trails of the Pere Marquette State Forest. Over the last fourteen years, one-half of the events have been conducted with snow on the ground.
Additional events include the Slush Cup, Sno-Cone, and Ice Cycle Expo. The Slush Cup is a half-frozen eight mile version of the Iceman, while the Sno-Cone event is geared towards riders under 12 with all youngsters receiving medals and other goodies. The Ice Cycle Expo is held the Friday prior to the races at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.
More than 2,500 athletes from twenty-two states and Canada participated in the 2003 Iceman Events. An estimated 4,000 spectators lined the courses to catch the excitement as the riders progressed along the trail.
