Slush Cup & Sno-Cone Races
14th Annual Slush Cup Race
A half-frozen version of the Iceman
Slush Cup RaceThe Meijer Slush Cup offers beginning cyclists the option of a shorter and more relaxed event than the Iceman. Approximately 8 miles long, the Meijer Slush Cup is perfect for spouses, youngsters, and older riders. Riders who haven't been able to ride as much as they'd like often opt for the Meijer Slush Cup.

Young riders race in two-year age categories rather than in skill or ability levels, which allows for better competition.

The Meijer Slush Cup now starts and finishes at Timber Ridge. Open to youngsters and adult beginners only, the Meijer Slush Cup course follows the Vasa 10 Kilometer trail out, around and back. The Meijer Slush Cup course has moderate climbs, some screamer down hills, and is all on forest two track roads. The Meijer Slush Cup trail merges with the Iceman trail at the 4 mile mark. All Slushies will be headed to the finish line before the Iceman riders reach that section of trail.

Slushies share the last food station, Ice Station Zebra, with the Iceman riders. Ice Station Zebra is located at the 22 mile mark of the Iceman Course. Gatorade, cookies, apples, and bananas will be served.

Late arrivals may pick-up their Meijer Slush Cup packets in the big tent at Timber Ridge beginning at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning.

Sno-Cone
A half pint version of the Iceman
Sno-ConeThe 2007 Iceman will once again host a kid's Meijer Sno-Cone race for young sters under twelve. Registration is free! All participants receive a medal, a bike number plate, stickers, etc.

The Meijer Sno-Cone will begin at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 10. Participants will be broken down into appropriate age categories and ability levels. The course will consist of a short (1/4 mile) and relatively flat loop around Timber Ridge RV & Recreation Resort for the very youngest riders and a 1.5 mile course for older riders. Each age group will ride a different number of laps.

The only requirements are that the participants have an ANSI approved helmet and that their bike pass a safety inspection. Registration is FREE and will take place on Saturday morning beginning at 9:00 AM.
Pre-registration is requested.

MEIJER EXPANDS SNO-CONE ACTIVITIES
Meijer is once again sponsoring the Slush Cup and Sno-Cone events and we couldn't be more pleased! "Meijer is a perfect fit for the Slush Cup and Sno-Cone events as Meijer stores are committed to buying the freshest locally grown produce (in fact, Meijer purchases more Michigan apples, than anyone in the country), they have a huge organic foods selection, and have an even larger specialty foods section that features many hard to find items all of which fit into the lifestyle of cyclists!” said Steve Brown, race director.

Shari Steinbach, MS RD, is the lead dietitian and Healthy Living Advisor for Meijer here in Michigan. She uses her extensive background in the food industry and health education to bring you trusted advice and information about the many products and foods available in Meijer stores and how they can be part of a smart and healthy lifestyle.

You'll fi nd Shari and her Healthy Living colleagues at many community and in-store events (like this year's Ice Cycle Expo) as they bring Meijer's Healthy Living message alive with presentations, and fun activities.

Shari and members of the Meijer team will also be at the big food tent on Saturday afternoon offering a host of children’s activities that promote a Healthy Living lifestyle. She's been busy collecting ingredients for make-your-own trail mix, mapping out a disc golf course near the finish line that promises fun for all, as well as organizing a coloring contest for youngsters! There will be give-a-ways galore so stop and pay Shari a visit.

Shari encourages you to take time for yourself and to make healthy choices that work for you and your family. "The Meijer Healthy Living team is here to help!"

Each month the Meijer website, www.meijer.com, will focus on a specifi c health topic and provide you with key Healthy Living strategies, along with recipes, tips and tools that can be easily used in your daily life.
